Dr Linda Worrall-Carter

Founder & CEO Her Heart

Dr. Linda Worrall-Carter is Founder & CEO of Her Heart, a non-profit organisation that combines expert advice and information with innovative programs and opportunities to educate women on the risks of heart disease.

Linda is a leading authority on Cardiovascular Health for Women. Originally from the UK she has a background in nursing, teaching and research. Possessing substantial leadership experience she has held a number of senior executive positions; these include Foundation Director of two Nursing Research Centres plus a multidisciplinary Cardiovascular Research Centre. In these and other roles, she has acted as Chair of a Board, Advisory Board, and Chair of Steering Committees.

Linda’s clinical expertise and background is within cardiovascular disease with a particular interest and passion in Women and Heart Disease. She has sought out opportunities, developed concepts and sourced funding of almost 9 million dollars; a strong advocate for scholarship she has co-published over 80 publications and presented over 160 conference papers, many on women and heart disease

Equally passionate about facilitating and harnessing the talents of women Linda has used her position of influence to mentor and support many nurses and allied health personnel from senior clinicians, to executive leaders and female academics. She has also been influential through formal and informal mentoring, in terms of official research supervision. During her academic career she has supervised 23 postgraduate students with a number of PhD students being awarded nationally competitive scholarships, having also been invited to examine almost 30 Theses.

Professionally, Linda has wide national and international networks. She is not only active in the nursing community but has also been invited to work with a number of key national organisations including the Heart Foundation, National Health & Medical Research, and Australian Research Council. This is either as a Research Ambassador (Heart Foundation) a grant reviewer, or panel member for other key funding bodies. A founding member of the Australasian College of Cardiovascular Nurses (position as secretary for 3 years) she was also instrumental in establishing the Cardiovascular Nursing Council as part of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand. An Associate Editor for a national journal for 6 years, she is also on a number of Editorial Boards and peer reviews for several journals.

Linda considers herself a strong advocate for the support of women in carrying out research and increasing awareness in the area of Women and Heart disease a field in which she has carried out research for almost 15 years. Previous experience includes work as a Research Ambassador for the Heart Foundations Go Red campaign, this profile also extends internationally, and in May 2014, Linda was invited to be on a Committee and act as a Program leader for The World Heart Federation and Congress of Cardiology with over 8000 delegates. A Scientific program member of the 4th International Conference on Women and Heart Disease has allowed her to strengthen her links with key Associations linked to Heart Disease in Women in Europe and the US. In Australia, Linda has been recognised for her significant contribution to the Cardiovascular and Nursing Community and was awarded the CSANZ Cardiovascular Nursing Lecture as well as a Fellowship of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand
