Michelle Blicavs
Chief Executive Officer
International Association for Public Participation Australasia

Michelle has 20 years management experience, 15 years in the transport industry and 5 years in the community services sector. Passionate about seeing strong governance culture in organisations, Michelle also spent 5 years as a management consultant working with small businesses in the Illawarra before taking on her current role as CEO for The International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) Australasia.

IAP2 promotes community engagement around the world and the Australasian Association has the largest global membership. With a national office based in Wollongong, Michelle oversees a small team of 6 managing membership, events and training around Australia and New Zealand. Being regionally based provides great opportunities for staff to work closer to home and no one misses the city commute, but they do enjoy lunch on the beach from time to time!

In 2011 Michelle was elected a Councillor to Wollongong City Council. Wollongong is one of New South Wales largest local government areas with over 200,000 residents and is a city in transformation. Michelle is a member of the Audit and Risk Committee, Economic Development Board, City Centre Committee and previously a member of the Southern Councils Group.

With a passion for community service, Michelle was appointed Chair of the Top Blokes Foundation in 2010 which seeks to inspire young men through local school programs and building projects across the Illawarra region.

Michelle is also a Trustee Director with Australian Christian Superannuation (since 2010) and in 2013 was appointed Trustee Director to Local Government Superannuation. Michelle has taken a strong interest in the financial future of women and is helping to promote the need for women to think about their own retirement needs. With women retiring with 50% less than men, and living longer, this is becoming a significant issue for our economy.
